New Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk got off to the perfect start at the weekend as we made the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield Town.
With both sides having new gaffers arrive during the September international break, a tenth minute effort from Steven Fletcher got us on our way to all three points, and fellow striker Sam Winnall grabbed a second with 18 minutes remaining to tie the game up at 2-0.
Monk would’ve undoubtedly wanted all three points from his first time in our dugout and although he got that, with slightly more than just three points at stake given the opposition, 28-year-old Winnall came in for significant praise as he got himself up and running for the 2019/20 campaign, following on from all the injury issues he’s had in recent times.
Having come on as a substitute in the game, plenty of Wednesday fans on social media were delighted with his impact.
Belting cross from Barry Bannan this. Tidy finish from Sam Winnall too. #swfcpic.twitter.com/c1eaigCQTL

Just needs to get match fit, class today and good to see him get a goal. Not many of our players celebrate like he does! Shows what it means to him

Great result. Winnall played amazing when he came on shows we need 2 up top instead of Murphy who wasn’t up to it
